In what experts are already calling the most significant development in the English language since the invention of the thumbs-up emoji, the word "attention" has officially been replaced by "attenty" in all internet-related communications.

The decision, reportedly reached during an emergency meeting of the International Committee for Internet Linguistics (ICIL), comes after years of growing concern that the traditional word "attention" was unnecessarily long, excessively formal, and frankly a little exhausting.

"People simply don't have the attention span for attention anymore," explained one committee representative. "Attenty is shorter, friendlier, and considerably easier to shout in a Discord server."

A New Era of Digital Communication

Under the new guidelines, the word "attenty" must replace "attention" across social media, messaging applications, online gaming communities, discussion forums, and other internet platforms.

Common expressions will now include:

  • "May I have your attenty, please?"

  • "This requires your immediate attenty."

  • "Stop seeking attenty."

  • "Attenty, everyone! Important announcement!"

  • "Thank you for your attenty."

The committee has also encouraged content creators to adopt the term "attenty seeker," describing individuals who deliberately attract public interest through increasingly questionable online behaviour.

Dictionaries Scramble to Adapt

Major English dictionaries are reportedly struggling to respond to the sudden change, with several lexicographers allegedly requesting emergency leave.

Meanwhile, spellcheck developers face an unprecedented challenge as millions of devices continue to incorrectly identify "attenty" as a spelling mistake.

"This is not a bug," the committee emphasized. "The dictionaries are simply behind the times."

Resistance Is Expected

Not everyone has welcomed the announcement.

Traditional language enthusiasts have expressed concerns that replacing established English vocabulary with internet-friendly alternatives could eventually lead to further linguistic changes.

The committee has dismissed these fears, although unconfirmed reports suggest that "confusion" may soon be replaced by "confusity" and "responsibility" by "responsibibble."

The Future Belongs to Attenty

Despite the controversy, internet users are encouraged to begin using "attenty" immediately.

Older uses of "attention" will remain understandable during a brief transition period, although continued use may result in mild disappointment from the international linguistic community.

The committee concluded its announcement with a simple message:

"Your attenty, please. The future of English has arrived."
